This course is suitable for all former students of Waterside who have completed Module 2 or those that have completed studies elsewhere and are proficient in hand forging.
Under the guidance of accomplished American guest tutor/blacksmith Peter Braspenninx, students will learn how to join metal with a focus on precision and planning to achieve the best result. Peter will discuss the importance of design and selecting the right joints for certain projects and introduce students to different techniques including forge welding, integral collars, slit and drift and wedge joints.
- Day 1, students will explore small samples and experiment with different techniques
- Day 2, execution of a pre-designed small sculpture using newly learned techniques with the option for a student designed / instructor assisted project.
Peter has over 15 years of forging experience, runs his own business and is well known for his meticulously designed and masterfully executed art pieces with a distinct minimal aesthetic.
