The studio was established in 2011 by Steve Phillips (Estebana). Steve has a background in science and discovered the wonderful world of blacksmithing later in life. Uniquely gregarious by nature and enjoying meeting new people, setting up a teaching facility seemed the next logical step to take. Today Waterside offers a wide range of courses and experiences with the help of some of the finest guest teachers from Australia and abroad.
The studio is equipped with ten coke fired forging stations, including anvils, hand tools and leg vices. A power hammer, fly press and belt grinders are also available to assist with the delivery of quality blacksmithing experiences from beginners to advanced.
Both partners are avid hikers and their love for the natural world instills a sense of urgency to look after ‘our home’ and reducing Waterside’s environmental footprint by becoming carbon neutral.
Waterside is a proud anchor member of the RiverEdge Creative Alliance (RECA).
